What does CBAM mean?
CBAM stands for Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism. It is EU regulation requiring importers within its scope to report the emissions embedded in certain goods imported from outside the EU.
This is a regulatory obligation, not a voluntary sustainability report. It does not apply to every importer.
The aim is to align carbon costs for goods produced in the EU and imported goods, and to reduce carbon leakage: production and emissions moving outside the EU.
Why did we build Aigen CBAM?
Import records, supplier responses and emissions data are often spread across files and systems. We built Aigen CBAM to bring them together, reduce manual data collection and guide reporting preparation.
We want to make that preparation more accessible to smaller businesses, too. The tool helps prepare the declaration data, but you submit the declaration to the EU CBAM registry yourself.

What you can do with Aigen CBAM
For annual declaration preparation.
See what is missing
- The checklist shows which information is still missing.
- The AI assistant helps with platform use, CBAM questions, filling in forms and processing imports.
- Both the interface and CN-code search are available in Finnish and English.
Import register and data import
- Record CN codes, masses, countries of origin, import dates and customs references in the import register.
- Import CSV or Excel files and map columns to the right fields. AI assists with data cleanup.
Emissions, threshold and certificates
- Calculate emissions and certificate needs using actual emissions or default values. The calculation accounts for the phased removal of free allowances.
- Track the 50-tonne annual threshold for goods covered by that threshold.
- Compare the CBAM certificates you hold with your forecast need.
Emissions data directly from suppliers
- Send suppliers an invitation link to submit emissions data. Suppliers do not need an account.
- Review and approve the supplier’s data yourself, then attach it to the relevant import consignment.
Prepare the annual declaration
- Prepare annual declaration data and export it as XML or ZIP for submission to the EU CBAM registry.
- The tool prepares the declaration data. You submit the declaration to the EU CBAM registry.
Traceability and multiple companies
- See who changed what in the change history. Attach documents to import consignments.
- Manage multiple companies on one account, for example an accounting firm’s clients.
What stays outside the platform?
- You submit the prepared declaration data to the EU CBAM registry yourself.
- Certificates cannot be purchased through the platform.
- Aigen CBAM does not replace accounting software.

Why does CBAM break down in practice?
